In the wake of the terrorist attack in Jerusalem, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held a special situation assessment attended by the Chief of Staff, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Deputy Head of the General Security Services, Head of the Operations Branch, Head of the Military Intelligence Branch, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and Head of the Political-Military Bureau.
At the conclusion of the situation assessment, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signed seizure orders in an aggregate amount of millions of Shekels for funds of Israeli security prisoners residing in East Jerusalem who are receiving payment from the Palestinian Authority as a reward for their involvement in terrorist activity.
In a joint operation of the General Security Services, the National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF) in the Ministry of Defense, the Israel Police, the Israel Prison Service, the Israel Tax Authority, The Israel Money Laundering Prohibition Authority and the Forfeiture Unit in the Ministry of Justice, Defense Minister Gallant signed seizure orders against 86 active prisoners, released prisoners and their family members who are receiving payment from the Palestinian Authority in an aggregate volume of millions of Shekels.
The orders were signed as part of the defense establishment's economic campaign against the terrorist organizations and including PA payments to security prisoners. The terrorist funds ordered to be seized by the Defense Minister had been paid by the Palestinian Authority to terrorists serving prison sentences in Israeli prisons, released prisoners, as well as to their family members as a reward for the acts of terror committed by them.
